Criteria for authorship ICMJE

The International Committee of Medical Journal Editors ICMJE (International Committee of Medical Journal editors) approved four criteria for determining authorship:

1. Substantial contribution to the concept and design of the study or the acquisition and analysis of data or their interpretation.

2. Writing an article or substantively reworking its important scientific and intellectual content.

3. The final approval of the version for publication.

4. Consent to be responsible for all aspects of the work and ensure appropriate consideration and resolution of issues related to the accuracy and integrity of all parts of the work.

The author must determine which of the co-authors is responsible for the other parts of the work. All authors should be sure that the contribution of their co-author is integrated into the overall work.

The author should be recognized only by the participant of the work who meets all four criteria. If a person does not meet all the criteria, his name should be mentioned in the “Acknowledgments” section or indicate the specific contribution made by this person next to the name.

Anyone who meets criterion № 1 can take part in writing, editing and approving the text. The roles in the writing of scientific work should be distributed by the participants during planning and execution. The editorial staff of the journal is not obliged to award the author’s status or to resolve disputes arising on this issue.

The correspondence author is one of the persons responsible for communication with the editorial board and guarantees fulfillment of all the requirements of the publication (providing information about authorship, opinions of the ethics committee, documents on clinical research, filing of applications for conflicts of interest, indicating the contribution of each of the authors). The author for correspondence constantly maintains contact with the editorial staff of the journal, promptly answers questions from editors and provides the necessary information.

If the study is conducted by a large group of scientists, then each of them must meet all four criteria of authorship and provide a statement of conflict of interest. The group of authors chooses the author for correspondence in advance.

Each co-creator who is not the author must give written consent for the mention in the “Gratitude” section.
